The mission of the Dialysis Technician program is to prepare students for entry into a global workforce as a Dialysis Technician.
This program will prepare students for entry-level position as a Dialysis Technician in the hospital or clinic. The compentencies of this program follows the duties and responsibilities of a Dialysis Technician as outlined by the Louisiana Board of Regents. Topics of study include anatomy and physiology, health assessment, nutrition, communication, and legal rights and ethics, introduction to electrocardiology, electrocardiology leads, and cardiac arrhytmias, phlebotomy practice and health care setting, infection control, legal and regulatory issues, and the venipuncture, access fistulae, have knowledge and experience caring for the patient in kidney failure, knowledgeable and experienced in hemodialysis procedures, hemodialysis complications, dialyzer reprocessing and water treatment. The students will also demonstrate their skills in lab and in the clinical setting. The students will be encouraged to attain their national certification through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission. Upon completion of all program requirements, the students will receive a certificate of completion.
